"Attractive"
is a strange word.
We toss it around often and yet it doesn't lack in meaning.
It's quite purposeful, actually.
However, it isn't this general purposeful meaning that I find strange. It's in the semantics of the word itself, especially the root word,
"attract".
When we call someone attractive, we're literally saying that we are
pulled
to them, that they are
magnetic.
With that in mind, the word attractive suddenly becomes what it means. It is not only meaningful and purposeful, the way words ought to be, but also
beautiful.
