Recently, someone very close to me had their heart broken. If you're not familiar with the ailment, then I can only describe it as a very painful process with only one known cure: time and the support of loved ones. While I can't make time move faster, I've really been going out of my head trying to distract her and find stuff for us to do that will make the passage of time a little more pleasant.
So as of late I've been plying her with stand-up comedy. But not just any stand-up, only the most jaded, most intelligent and the funniest stand-up. Here are a few:
-Louis C.K.- Is he my spirit animal? Maybe. He's one of the funniest people just talking about his everyday life and he's appropriately pessimistic about relationships.
-George Carlin- Did I say Louis was pessimistic? Scratch that, what he does doesn't even come close to this hilariously jaded legend. Prepare for that funny bone to be offended and tickled on so many levels.
- Bo Burnham- Musically and comically talent, this upstart isn't your traditional stand-up artist, and thank god. He'll have you jamming and questioning the logic of everything with songs like #Deep, God's Perspective, Words Words Words, and Repeat Stuff (repeat stuff, repeat stuff, repeat stuff...)
- Russel Brand- Forgive him for the Katy Perry thing. And watch Messiah Complex. DO IT NOW.
All of these will have your heartbroken friend (or your heartbroken self) not caring about what happened for a good hour or so. Seriously, who can care what's happening when there are such wonderfully fucked up people in this universe?
Love,
Vicky
